History Co-Author review: the three-book history series written with the system, on Amazon

History is one of the biggest nonfiction shelves on Amazon, and one of the hardest for indie authors to get onto. You have to research like a historian and write like a novelist. Ask a chatbot to do both and you usually get invented quotes or a tidy, lifeless summary.

That is the gap History Co-Author is trying to fill. It is the first nonfiction entry in Søren Jordansen's Co-Author line, and it is built for one genre only: narrative history, meaning true events told with the pace of a novel.

I got access and used the system myself, so this History Co-Author review covers what it does, what it really costs, where it falls short, and who should actually buy it.

Short version: I came away impressed. At the launch price it is a lot of structure for very little money, and the research rules are the best part. It is not push-button, though, and the $17 is not your only cost.

What Is History Co-Author?

The first thing to know for this History Co-Author review: it is not software with its own dashboard. It is a set of three instruction files you load into a Claude or ChatGPT project, plus plugins that automate the file handling, plus a course that covers everything after the manuscript.

The idea is to make the AI play two roles at once. The first is a researcher that goes to diaries, letters, reports and testimony, weighs who wrote them, and refuses to use a quote it cannot trace. The second is a writer that turns that record into scenes a reader wants to keep turning.

The part I find most convincing is what happens at the end. When you close out a book, the system builds the back matter a serious history title carries: a cast of characters, a note on names, a note on sources, chapter notes and a selected bibliography. The vendor's own sample even admits where it relied on another historian's citation instead of the original document. That kind of honesty is rare in AI-written nonfiction.

How It Works

  1. Step 1: Plan

Load the three files and answer 18 questions about your book. The AI offers options with reasoning at each step and does its research along the way. You end up with five planning documents, including a Research Bible that holds every source.

  2. Step 2: Write

Ask for the book chapter by chapter. You read each one, give notes if you want, and request the next.

  3. Step 3: Close out and publish

One command builds the notes, bibliography and front matter. Then you format, add a cover and upload to KDP as Kindle, paperback or hardcover.

The vendor says planning takes a couple of hours and the writing takes days. That sounds realistic for a first draft. Editing time is on top.

What Is Inside

  1. Narrative History Framework. Around 700 lines of genre rules: pacing, scale, nine narrator voices, and the record rules that keep quotations exact.
  2. Narrative History Style Pack. About 186 lines of banned words, banned phrases and cliché rules, plus a self-check the AI runs on its own output.
  3. The Setup Prompt. Roughly 860 lines that run the 18-step planning conversation and produce the five planning documents.
  4. Narrative History Studio. Two plugins, one for Claude Cowork and one for ChatGPT Work. They create your folders, run Setup, start each chapter and run the closeout, so you are not pasting prompts by hand.
  5. 29-module written course. Genre strategy, research, planning, writing, editing, formatting in Kindle Create, covers, publishing, promotion and series building.
  6. Screenshot tutorials and videos. Click-through walkthroughs for the steps that are easier to see than to read.

What I Liked

  • Sources come first. Exact quotations, chapter notes and a bibliography are built into the process. History readers check, so this is the feature that protects your pen name.
  • It is narrow on purpose. One genre, done properly, beats a general "write any book" prompt pack.
  • The training goes past the manuscript. Covers, formatting, KDP settings and promotion are where most beginners stall, and they are covered.
  • The income claims are modest. The vendor shows about $1,775 in royalties across nine books this year and calls it not life-changing himself. I trust a launch page more when it says that.
  • Two AI options. It runs on Claude or ChatGPT, so you can use the subscription you already pay for.
  • A fair guarantee. 14 days, and you keep whatever you started.

What I Did Not Like

  • $17 is not the full cost. You need a paid Claude or ChatGPT plan at about $20 a month. If you do not already have one, budget for it.
  • You still have to check the work. The rules reduce invented facts, but no AI system removes them. Verify key names, dates and quotes before you publish under your own pen name. I cover more traps like this in 7 deadly mistakes in KDP.
  • It is not hands-off. You make 18 planning decisions, read every chapter and do a polish pass. That is the point of a co-author, but it is real time.
  • The results shown are the vendor's own. The history series is only a few weeks old, so there is no long-term sales data yet, and most testimonials on the page come from his earlier fiction products.
  • No cover or formatting tool is included. The course teaches both, but you do them with other tools.
  • Expect upgrades. The FAQ mentions six more genre versions built on the same architecture. Upgrade prices are not listed on the sales page.

History Co-Author Pricing and Upgrades

The front end is $17 as a one-time payment during launch week. The sales page says the price goes up after that, so the number you see may be higher by the time you read this.

There is no recurring fee from the vendor, and updates to the system are included. The purchase is covered by a 14-day money-back guarantee. The only ongoing cost is your own Claude or ChatGPT subscription.

Who Is It For?

  • KDP publishers who want a nonfiction series that earns from both sales and Kindle Unlimited page reads. New to the model? Here is why Amazon KDP is still profitable in 2026.
  • History fans with a war, a shipwreck or a forgotten figure they have always wanted to write about, who got stopped by the research.
  • Fiction authors already using AI who want a second, less crowded shelf.
  • Working writers who mainly want the planning documents and will write the prose themselves.

Skip it if you need peer-review-level scholarship, want to avoid paying for an AI subscription, expect a finished book with zero input, or are looking for fast guaranteed income. Publishing is still a slow build.

History Co-Author vs a Plain ChatGPT Prompt

You can ask ChatGPT to write narrative history today. The sales page shows what tends to come back: accurate, general, and with no people, numbers or quoted words in it. Nothing is wrong, and nothing holds your attention.

What you are paying for is the layer on top: research that goes to named sources before a word is written, rules that stop the model from smoothing everything into a summary, continuity tracking across two dozen chapters, and back matter built from the same research. If you want one short article, a plain prompt is fine, and my guide to optimizing AI prompts for KDP eBooks will get you further. If you want a 300-page book you can defend, the framework is the product.

Bonuses

During launch week the vendor adds one bonus to the front end:

  • 50 book ideas with 252 collected sources. Topics such as Apollo 13, the Donner Party, Waterloo and Salem, each paired with the diaries, letters, transcripts and reports needed to start. The sales page says it is removed when launch week ends.

FAQ

Is History Co-Author a subscription?

No. The front-end offer is a one-time payment. You do need a paid Claude or ChatGPT plan to run it, which is about $20 a month and billed separately by those companies.

Do I need to be a historian or a writer?

No. According to the vendor, you answer 18 guided questions and make the creative decisions while the AI handles research and drafting. You still read, steer and approve every chapter.

Is the history accurate?

It is built to be. The vendor says quotations are copied word for word from the source and re-checked after each chapter, and that gaps in the record are not filled with invention. I would still spot-check key names, dates and quotes before publishing.

Will Amazon let me publish AI-assisted books?

Yes. KDP asks you to disclose whether AI was used when you upload a title. You tick the box and publish as normal.

How long does one book take?

The vendor puts planning and research at a couple of hours, and the writing at days instead of months on a paid AI plan. Your own pace will depend on how much you edit.

Does it work with other AI models?

At launch it is tuned for Claude and ChatGPT only. The vendor says other models are in testing and will be added at no extra cost if they meet his quality bar.

What if I do not like it?

There is a 14-day money-back guarantee, and the vendor says you keep any books and planning documents you started.

History Co-Author Review: Final Verdict

History Co-Author takes on the two things that usually sink AI nonfiction, invented facts and flat prose, and it answers both with process instead of promises. The source rules, the automatic notes and bibliography, and the full publishing course make it a serious package for $17.

It is an easy yes if you already pay for Claude or ChatGPT and want to build a history series on KDP. Go in knowing that you will still read, check and edit every chapter, and that royalties build slowly. For the bigger picture, see my Amazon KDP strategy for 2026.

My rating: 4.5 / 5. Strong research rules, a complete publishing course and a fair price. It loses half a point for the extra AI subscription cost and the editing time you still need.

Having used it, I am happy to recommend it. If that sounds like you, launch week is the time to grab it.
